Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
