۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the apostles. 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 one of them will say, "I had a friend, 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 So behold what wise hath been the end of those who were warned. 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
