Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
