He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
