We did not create this heaven and earth and all that lies between them in vain. That is the fancy of those who denied the Truth. So woe from the Fire to all who deny the Truth. 27 Shall We make those who believe and work righteous works like unto the corrupters in the earth; or shall We make the God-fearing like unto the wicked! 28 [All this have We expounded in this] blessed divine writ which We have revealed unto thee, [O Muhammad,] so that men may ponder over its messages, and that those who are endowed with insight may take them to heart. 29 And to David We gave Solomon. An excellent servant, indeed he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allah]. 30 When there were brought to him in the evening (horses) still when standing, swift when running-- 31 Therefore Sulaiman said, “I cherish the love of these horses*, out of remembrance of my Lord”; he then ordered them to be raced until they vanished in a curtain out of sight. (To be used in holy war.) 32 "Bring them back to me!" -- [he said] and began to stroke their legs and their necks. 33 Surely We put Solomon to the test and cast upon his throne a mere body. Thereupon he penitently turned (to Us). 34 He prayed, "Lord forgive me! Grant me such power as no one after me will have -- You are the Most Generous Provider." 35 We made the wind subservient to him, to blow gently wherever he desired at his command 36 And the devils -- the builders and divers of all kinds, 37 and others also, coupled in fetters: 38 "This is Our gift," (We said to him), "so bestow freely or withhold without reckoning." 39 Indeed an exalted position of nearness awaits him and an excellent resort. 40
