۞ He it is who created you from a single soul, and He created therefrom his spouse that he might find repose in her. Then when he covereth her she beareth a light burthen and fareth about therewith; then when she groweth heavy the twain call upon Allah their Lord: if Thou vouchsafest us a goodly child, we shall surely be of the thankful. 189 When they were given a healthy son, they began to love him as much as they loved God. God is too exalted to be loved equally to anything else. 190 Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and they are [themselves] created? 191 The idols are things that are not able to help others or even themselves. 192 And if ye call them to the Guidance, they follow you not. Whether ye call them or are silent is all one for you. 193 Verily, those whom you call upon besides Allah are slaves like you. So call upon them and let them answer you if you are truthful. 194 Have they feet to walk with? Or hands to lay hold with? Or eyes to see with? Or ears to hear with? Say: "Call your 'god-partners', scheme (your worst) against me, and give me no respite! 195 "For my Protector is Allah, Who revealed the Book (from time to time), and He will choose and befriend the righteous. 196 While those you beseech apart from Him cannot help you or even help themselves. 197 If thou callest them to guidance, they hear not. Thou wilt see them looking at thee, but they see not. 198 Keep to forgiveness (O Muhammad), and enjoin kindness, and turn away from the ignorant. 199 If a suggestion from Satan assail thy (mind), seek refuge with Allah; for He heareth and knoweth (all things). 200 Verily, those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V. 2:2), when an evil thought comes to them from Shaitan (Satan), they remember (Allah), and (indeed) they then see (aright). 201 And their brethren increase them in error, then they cease not. 202 And when you, [O Muhammad], do not bring them a sign, they say, "Why have you not contrived it?" Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This [Qur'an] is enlightenment from your Lord and guidance and mercy for a people who believe." 203 And when the Qur'an is recited, give ear to it and pay heed, that ye may obtain mercy. 204 Remember thy Lord in thy soul, humbly and fearfully, not loud of voice, at morn and eventide. Be not thou among the heedless. 205 [The angels] who are near to Your Lord, never turn away from His service out of arrogance; they rather glorify Him and prostrate themselves before Him. ۩ 206
