Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 and ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
