The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
