He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attend to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
