Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
