The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
