۞ He it is Who did create you from a single soul, and therefrom did make his mate that he might take rest in her. And when he covered her she bore a light burden, and she passed (unnoticed) with it, but when it became heavy they cried unto Allah, their Lord, saying: If thou givest unto us aright we shall be of the thankful. 189 And yet, as soon as He has granted them sound [offspring,] they begin to ascribe to other powers beside Him a share in bringing about what He has granted them! Sublimely exalted, however, is God - above anything to which men may ascribe a share in His divinity! 190 Do they (the pagans) consider things that do not create anything but are themselves created equal to God? 191 And the false deities are unable to [give] them help, nor can they help themselves. 192 If ye call them to guidance, they will not obey: For you it is the same whether ye call them or ye hold your peace! 193 Those whom you (pagans) worship besides God, are themselves servants just like yourselves. If your claim was true, they should answer your prayers. 194 Have they feet wherewith they walk, or have they hands wherewith they hold, or have they eyes wherewith they see, or have they ears wherewith they hear? Say: Call upon your (so-called) partners (of Allah), and then contrive against me, spare me not! 195 "For my Protector is Allah, Who revealed the Book (from time to time), and He will choose and befriend the righteous. 196 They on whom ye call beside Him have no power to help you, nor can they help you, nor can they help themselves. 197 If thou callest them to guidance, they hear not. Thou wilt see them looking at thee, but they see not. 198 Keep to forgiveness (O Muhammad), and enjoin kindness, and turn away from the ignorant. 199 If Satan will try to seduce you, seek refuge from God. God is All-hearing and All-knowing. 200 Verily those who fear God think of Him when assailed by the instigations of Satan, and lo! they begin to understand, 201 As for their brethren [the Satans], they draw them deeper into error and do not relax in their efforts. 202 And when you, [O Muhammad], do not bring them a sign, they say, "Why have you not contrived it?" Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This [Qur'an] is enlightenment from your Lord and guidance and mercy for a people who believe." 203 So when the Qur'an is recited, listen thereto and keep silence, haply ye may be shewn mercy. 204 And do thou (O Muhammad) remember thy Lord within thyself humbly and with awe, below thy breath, at morn and evening. And be not thou of the neglectful. 205 Verily those who are with thy Lord are not stiff-necked against His worship, and they hallow, and unto Him they prostrate themselves. ۩ 206
