In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
