A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 Verily we are undone. 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
