The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 And indeed We sent Noble Messengers before you, to the former nations. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
