The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
