And recall what time the hypocrites and these in whose hearts was a disease said: their religion hath begulfed those. And whosoever relieth on Allah then verily Allah is Mighty, Wise. 49 If you could see, when the angels take the souls of those who are bent on denying the truth [at death], how they strike their faces and backs: saying "Taste the punishment of the Burning! 50 in return for what your own hands have wrought - for, never does God do the least wrong to His creatures!" 51 Like Pharaoh's folk, and the people before him, who disbelieved in God's signs; God seized them because of their sins; God is strong, terrible in retribution. 52 That is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing. 53 [To those sinners shall happen] the like of what happened to Pharaoh's people and those who lived before them: they gave the lie to their Sustainer's messages - and so We destroyed them in return for their sins, and caused Pharaoh's people to drown: for they were evildoers all. 54 Surely the vilest of animals in Allah's sight are those who disbelieve, then they would not believe. 55 They are those with whom thou didst make a covenant, but they break their covenant every time, and they have not the fear (of Allah). 56 So if you gain the mastery over them in war, punish them severely in order to disperse those who are behind them, so that they may learn a lesson. 57 or, if thou hast reason to fear treachery from people [with whom thou hast made a covenant,] cast it back at them in an equitable manner: for, verily, God does not love the treacherous! 58
