The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!" 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
