The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 for those on the Right, 38
