Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
