Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
We sent Noah to his nation, saying: 'Give warning to your nation before a painful punishment overtakes them' 1 [And Noah] said: "O my people! I am but a plain warner to you, [sent to tell you] 2 That you should worship God and fear Him, and follow me 3 so that He may forgive you some of your sins, and grant you respite until a term known [to Him alone]: but, behold, when the term appointed by God does come, it can never be put back - if you but knew it!" 4 He said: My Lord! Lo! I have called unto my people night and day 5 but the more I called, the farther they fled. 6 And verily so oft as I call them, that Thou mayest forgive them, they place their fingers into their ears, and wrap themselves with their garments, and persist, and are stiff-necked. 7 Then indeed I called them openly; 8 Then verily I spake unto them openly and secretly. I also addressed them. 9 Then I said, "Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Surely He is the most forgiving. 10 He will let loose the sky for you in plenteous rain, 11 ‘And will aid you with wealth and sons, and will create gardens for you and cause rivers to flow for you.’ 12 strengthen you by (providing) you wealth and children, and make gardens and streams for you. What is the matter with you that you are not afraid of the greatness of God 13 He has created you by stages! 14 "'See ye not how Allah has created the seven heavens one above another, 15 And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp? 16 God made you grow from the earth. 17 Then He returns you to it, then will He bring you forth a (new) bringing forth: 18 God has spread out the earth 19 So that you may walk upon its spacious paths.' 20
