The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
