Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 it is a warning to man, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 About the guilty: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
