Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
