Yea, indeed, We have created you, and then formed you; and then We said unto the angels, "Prostrate yourselves before Adam!" - whereupon they [all] prostrated themselves, save Iblis: he was not among those who prostrated themselves. 11 Said Allah, “What prevented you, that you did not prostrate when I commanded you?” Answered Iblis, “I am better than him; You created me from fire whereas You created him from clay.” 12 [God] said: "Down with thee, then, from this [state] - for it is not meet for thee to show arrogance here! Go forth, then: verily, among the humiliated shalt thou be!" 13 Satan said, "Give me respite until the Day of Resurrection," 14 (Allah) said: "Be thou among those who have respite." 15 (Iblis) said: "Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path. 16 I shall attack them from all directions and You will not find many of them giving You thanks". 17 [Allah] said, "Get out of Paradise, reproached and expelled. Whoever follows you among them - I will surely fill Hell with you, all together." 18 And [as for thee,] O Adam, dwell thou and thy wife in this garden, and eat, both of you, whatever you may wish; but do not approach this one tree, lest you become evildoers!" 19 Then began Satan to whisper suggestions to them, bringing openly before their minds all their shame that was hidden from them (before): he said: "Your Lord only forbade you this tree, lest ye should become angels or such beings as live for ever." 20 And he swore unto them, "Verily, I am of those who wish you well indeed!" 21 So he brought them down with deception; and when they tasted from that tree, their shame became manifest to them and they began attaching the leaves of Paradise on themselves; and their Lord said to them, “Did I not forbid you from that tree, and tell you that Satan is an open enemy to you?” 22 They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged our own souls: If thou forgive us not and bestow not upon us Thy Mercy, we shall certainly be lost." 23 [Allah] said, "Descend, being to one another enemies. And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time." 24 Allah said: therein ye shall live and therein ye shall die, and therefrom ye shall be brought forth. 25
