The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
