The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say: "O you to whom the Admonition has been revealed, you are surely crazed. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
