Sad: By the Qur'an, Full of Admonition: (This is the Truth). 1 In fact, the disbelievers are in false pride and opposition. 2 How many a generation We have destroyed before them, and they cried out when there was no longer time for escape! 3 And they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves, and the disbelievers say: This is an enchanter, a liar. 4 Maketh he the gods One Allah? Lo! that is an astounding thing. 5 And their leading chiefs said: "Remain attached to your gods. There is surely some motive behind it. 6 “We never heard of this even in Christianity, the latest religion; this is clearly a newly fabricated matter.” 7 What, out of all of us, has the Remembrance been sent down to him (Prophet Muhammad)' No, they are doubtful about My Remembrance, no, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Or do they [think that they] own the treasures of thy Sustainer's grace - [the grace] of the Almighty, the Giver of Gifts? 9 Have they control over heavens and earth and whatever [lies] between them? Then let them climb up to heaven by ropes: 10 this host too, among other hosts, is bound to suffer defeat. 11 To the truth gave the lie aforetime Noah's people, and [the tribe of] Ad, and Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles, 12 Thamood, the nation of Lot and the dwellers of the Thicket such were the confederates. 13 None of them was such that it did not deny the Noble Messengers, therefore My punishment became inevitable. 14
