He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
