Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Does he [claim to] have knowledge of something that is beyond the reach of human perception, so that he can see [it clearly]? 35 Has he not been made acquainted with what was written in the scriptures of Moses? 36 and of Abraham, who lived up to the trust? 37 To wit, that a burthened soul shall not bear the burthen of another. 38 and that a man shall have to his account only as he has laboured, 39 And that his deeds will be seen, 40 Then he will be fully repaid for it? 41 and that the final return is to your Lord, 42 That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears; 43 It is He who causes death and gives life. 44 and that He Himself created the two kinds, male and female, 45 From a drop of liquid, when it is added? 46 And that on Him is the bringing forth a second time; 47 And that it is He Who has given wealth and contentment? 48 And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius 49 And that it is He (Allah) Who destroyed the former 'Ad (people), 50 And Thamud (people). He spared none of them. 51 and before them the people of Noah who were even more unjust and insolent; 52 And He brought perdition upon the subverted cities 53 and covered them with torment. 54 About which, then, of thy Sustainer's powers canst thou [still] remain in doubt? 55 This is a (Prophet) like that of the ancient warners (Prophets). 56 The imminent Hour has drawn near, 57 apart from God none can disclose it. 58 Are you astonished at this news, 59 And you laugh and do not weep 60 Will you occupy yourselves simply in merriment? 61 Therefore prostrate for Allah, and worship Him.
