The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 And when the mountains shall made to pass away; 3 the young barren camels are abandoned, 4 And when the wild beasts are gathered 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 And when souls are united, 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 For what sin she was killed 9 when the records of men's deeds are laid open, 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 and when Hell is set ablaze, 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 Then every soul shall know that which it hath presented. 14 So I swear by the retreating stars - 15 Who move straight and stop. 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 and the morn as it breathes. 18 That this is indeed the word of an honoured Messenger, 19 endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 Your companion is not possessed; 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 Where then are you going? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 to every one of you who wishes to tread the straight path. 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
