And indeed We rescued the Descendants of Israel from a disgraceful torture. 30 at the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds. 31 And We chose them aforetime above the nations, knowingly, 32 and gave them such signs [of Our grace] as would clearly presage a test. 33 Even then they say: 34 there is nothing beyond our first death; we shall not be raised again. 35 So then, bring forth our forefathers [as witnesses,] if what you claim is true!" 36 Are they better than the people of Tubba' and those who came before them? We destroyed them, because they were guilty of sin. 37 It was not in play that We created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. 38 We created them not save in truth; but most of them know it not. 39 Surely the day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them 40 (when wrong will be distinguished from right). On this day friends will be of no benefit to one another, nor will they receive any help 41 Save those on whom Allah will have mercy. Verily He! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 42
