The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 near to flowing water 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
