The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
