The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
