And most surely this is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. 192 which the truthful spirit has carried down 193 into your heart, so that you may be a warner, 194 in the clear Arabic tongue. 195 Without doubt it is (announced) in the mystic Books of former peoples. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that the learned among the Children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 And even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners 198 they would still not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 that will come upon them [on resurrection,] all of a sudden, without their being aware [of its approach]; 202 Then they will say: are we to be respited? 203 Do they wish Us then to hasten the punishment? 204 Just think: If We let them enjoy (the good things of life) for a few years more, 205 and then the chastisement of which they were being warned were to come upon them, 206 What shall that which they enjoyed avail them? 207 And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners 208 to admonish them. We have never been unjust. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 it behoves them not, neither are they able. 211 indeed they are debarred from overhearing it. 212 Therefore do not worship another deity along with Allah, for you will be punished. 213 And warn thy clan, thy nearest kin. 214 and be meek to the believers who follow you. 215 And if they disobey thee, say thou: verily I am quit of that which ye work. 216 And put your trust in Him Who is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate, 217 who sees you when you stand up [for prayer], 218 And your movement among those who prostrate. 219 Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying, wicked person, 222 Who give ear, and most of them are liars. 223 And the poets -- the perverse follow them; 224 Do you not see that they wander about bewildered in every valley? 225 and say things which they do not act upon, 226 [Most of them are of this kind] save those who have attained to faith, and do righteous deeds, and remember God unceasingly, and defend themselves [only] after having been wronged, and [trust in God's promise that] those who are bent on wrongdoing will in time come to know how evil a turn their destinies are bound to take! 227
