The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
Almighty Allah's Truth.
