Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
