۞ (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 "It was you who tried to mislead us from righteousness". 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. 47 And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes. 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 'By Allah' he will say, 'you almost destroyed me! 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 For such a reward should the workers perform. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
