He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
