He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
