He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
