The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
