Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
