The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
