And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
