۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 and detain them there; they will be called to account. 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 Nay! he (Muhammad SAW) has come with the truth (i.e. Allah's Religion - Islamic Monotheism and this Quran) and he confirms the Messengers (before him who brought Allah's religion - Islamic Monotheism). 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 Do you want to see him?' " 54 Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up. 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 They had found their fathers astray, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
