Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 concerning the sinners, 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
