The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day resplendent 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
