The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
